Ardis I is not precisely a performance, a film, or a concert; it is, in essence, an experiment in synesthetic perception.
The work has a hybrid nature: it is neither a concert, nor a theatrical performance, nor a film—yet simultaneously all of these together. It is something unreal and, at the same time, profoundly “realistic.”
Once again, Fanny & Alexander’s journey, starting from Nabokov’s most baroque work, aims to break down planes and visual and auditory perspectives, creating a form that is almost elusive yet as simple as a definition—as the Russian-American writer himself described art: “a sort of garden within a concert hall, and an art gallery within that garden.”
